Sunday 21 December 2008

I would like to show you some cards that I have made this year for family and friends - I have made over 100 cards and I am going to donate 20p a card to Ovarian Cancer seeing as how that is what I had. We seem to hear an awful lot about breast cancer and a lot of people support it (and quite rightly so) but we don't seem to hear anything much about Ovarian Cancer.

The first card is using one of my favourite Whipper Snapper stamps. The dark coloured card is Stampin Up Elegant Eggplant and the sentiment is from Craftwork Cards.

The second one is another Whipper Snapper Stamp which I really like

and this is the inside of it - using Pink Petticoat paper.

The third one is using one of my favourite Stampin Up stamps which I have used for both Christmas Cards and Birthday Cards.

Thank you for looking

Well only 4 more days to go - well just over 3 days I suppose.
I am almost ready for it but just have to make a card for my husband yet.
I thought I would show you some of the cards I have made.

I bought the Penny Black 12 days of Christmas stamp set and then I wondered how I would use it.
I saw a star card on a website, not using the Penny Black stamps, but when I came to look for it again I could not find it (I am always doing that, I should be more organised) so I have put one together myself. This is it:-

I was really quite pleased with it, I hope you like it.

Friday 5 December 2008

Yet another crazy week.

First and foremost I must say "Congratulations" to my niece, Lynda, and her husband John on the birth of their new baby son - a brother for the totally gorgeous Ethan. Congratulations to my sister, Kath, and her husband Chris on becoming grandparents again. Looks like Kath just will not have time for crafting now she has got two grandsons.
On Monday Chris had to go to the hospital to see a consultant and he has to have an operation for a trapped nerve.
Tuesday my Mother in Law had to go to the hospital.
Wednesday I went for my check up and was pleased that everything is OK apart from having a painful hip, which the consultant said could be arthritis.
The consultant said that when you have had chemo it can age your body by as much as 10 years - don't know whether that is right or not.

Thursday Lynda went to the hospital and it was the funeral of my husband's sister in law (his brother's wife)

Today I had to drop my husband at the hospital for the camera "up and down" (everything is alright.) Then I had to dash to the dentist. My sister rang me to say that my niece had started in labour. I came home and had a much needed coffee and my husband's sister rang to tell me she has a benign tumour!! Then my sister rang to say Lynda had had a little boy and then I had to pick my husband up. By the time I got home I was exhausted.

Today the decision has been made to fold the rugby team that we run (at least I won't have to embroider the t.shirts) due to lack of players. I don't know what has happened to all the young lads they don't seem very interested in playing rugby - I think they must be out shopping with their girlfriends. I am very disappointed about this really but I suppose these things happen. The players, including my husband, that are interested in still playing and trying to stay together as a team have decided to move on to Brighouse and join their club.

I am now frantically trying to get all my Christmas Cards made and sent out.

Below is one that I made using another Whipper Snapper Stamp

and I love the one below. I used 2 Magnolia stamps and I am very pleased with the outcome.
The backing paper is from Pink Petticoat, the ribbon and dark coloured card is from Stampin Up and the sentiment from Craftwork Cards.
I think I need to go and have a lie down now!!
thank you for looking (if anyone has!)

Hello everyone!

I had a lovely day out yesterday doing a bit of Christmas shopping with my daughter Claire and grandaughter Florence. I don't get to see much of Florence with her living in Retford and she always used to cry when she saw me. Yesterday she was absolutely brilliant - she was very well behaved and gave me lots of kisses especially when it was time for her to go in her car seat. She is a right cheeky little monkey!! We were there from about 10.30am till about 4.00pm and when I left Claire at her car my legs hurt so much I could hardly walk back to my car. Anyway I made it and got stuck in a bit of traffic coming home but it wasn't too bad really.

Thursday 20 November 2008

Hi everyone, what a week this has been!!

On Monday my sister was taken to the A & E with a suspected heart attack but luckily it wasn't, and she came back home in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday we visited my mother in law who is hospital but is due to come home tomorrow.
Today my husband rang to say that his brother's wife had died - she was 61. Although she had suffered with asthma and bronchitis for a lot of years, she had been fine in the morning and was having a conversation with her husband and not long after that she could not breathe and died within 10 minutes of being admitted to hospital. I still can't believe it.
Let's hope there is nothing else bad to come.

Back to cards and below is the Mojo Monday sketch No. 61 which is quite a nice one I think.

I did two cards. The first one just using a snowman stamp that I had and Pink Petticoats paper. The darker card is Stampin Up Elegant Eggplant and so is the ribbon.

The second one is more or less the same except that I put the ribbon in a different place and forgot to put the 3 brads on the top of the picture. I was inspired by Dawny P. to use my Sugar Nellies snowman stamp and used my new Pro Markers to colour it. The sentiment is from Craftwork Cards.

Thank you for looking.

Wednesday 19 November 2008

Well it is almost a week since I updated my blog - I don't know where the time has gone!!

On Sunday my brilliant husband spoilt me and took me to the NEC at Birmingham for the Craft Show, which I really enjoyed but didn't actually spend very much.

Today I have been for a pedicure and an Indian Head Massage - which was very nice and relaxing.
Tomorrow I am meeting an old school friend who I haven't seen for a couple of years and on Friday both me and my husband are going to the dentist!!

I was feeling rather brave so I thought I would show you a flip book that I have made. I really enjoyed doing it, but beware - it is not very pleasant. I would not have let anyone see me like this 12 months ago but now that it is in the past it does not seem so important.

I bought this flip book from Crab Apple Crafts at Frodsham, which is owned by Rosemary Merry, who is well known and often appears on QVC.

It works a bit like a waterfall card in that you pull a tag and it all flips over.

This is the front of the book which I decorated using Making Memories papers
The photo above, like my profile one, was taken at Cape Verde last January.

This is the inside cover - the photo was taken at my Grandaughter's Christening in August this year. What a difference!! When I look back at photos from last year I feel that I am looking at someone else - it is really strange.

The photo above was taken 3 weeks after my operation in St. James's, Leeds and the beautiful flowers were from a couple that I have only really met about 3 times - I thought that was so lovely of them.

The above photo on the left was taken when my Grandaughter, Florence, was born in August last year - just a week after my first chemo session - still have my own hair. The one on the right was taken after my second session when it had started falling out.
The two above were after my 2nd and 3rd session and the one below left after my 5th session. The one on the right was when I had my head totally shaved.
The photo above left is when my hair had started to grow back (it was taken in my craft room) and on the right I have a nice covering.
The photo above right was taken in Tenerife in May this year.
The idea is to give you some idea of the flip book and what you can do with it so don't pay too much attention to the photos!
Thank you for looking.

Wednesday 12 November 2008

Today's cards are not actually my own design.

The two below are similar to a card that I saw in gold and red at Craftwork Cards last Christmas. I made one like it last year for my mother in law and then couldn't decide whether I liked it or not so I didn't make any more. When I went up to her house she had it hung up with all the other cards and as I looked at it I thought it was actually about the best card that she had, so I decided that this year I would make some more.

I have made them in the Aqua Prima Flowers and the Lilac ones. I really like them but it is surprising just how much time they take to do.

The card below is another one that I saw at Craftwork cards this year - I don't know if it was designed by Julie Hickey or one of the design team at Craftwork Cards.

It is funny but they are both easy cards to do but seem to take ages to make

Wednesday 5 November 2008

Ooh I am being very busy blogging today but I am really tired and have a headache.
I actually suffered with migraine after falling down a flight of steps in 1995 till I had my hysterectomy in 2007 - I had them every two weeks and they lasted for 2 - 3 days.
Anyway, below is a sketch from magnolia meet stampavie and below that is my card. It is the first time I have taken part in this challenge

I hope you like it, thank you for looking

It is 8 years today since my daughter, Claire, and her husband, Steve, got married in Las Vegas.
We had a fantastic time there, it was such an amazing place. As you can see Elvis attended the wedding and sang a couple of songs. Below is a photo of Elvis, Claire, Steve & the best man, Sid.

Below is the card that I have made them for their anniversary - hope they have a lovely day.

At the end of October we had a free weekend - our rugby match had been cancelled - so we thought we would spend it in Scarborough. My favourite place of all time in Scarborough is The Harbour Bar - no it is not a pub as most people think, it is an Ice Cream Parlour. They serve such delicious ice creams like a Chocolata - which is in a Knickerbocker Glory glass and has lots of ice cream, chocolate sauce and nuts - and Bananarama, which is similar but with bananas. Yummy!! They also serve the best coffee in Scarborough.

As we arrived and drove round the bay people were putting their gloves on and had their hoods up and it looked really cold. It was quite windy but we enjoyed walking round the bay from the North to the South.

We stayed overnight and then went on to Whitby the next day and we actually got a bit of a sun tan - in October! I was surprised at how busy Whitby was.

Here are some photos of me and my husband David.

It was really nice to actually have a weekend to ourselves as our lives are always very busy with work and rugby etc.

Sunday 2 November 2008

What a busy day I have had today.
I have been to the Craft Show at The Dome in Doncaster and really enjoyed it - I always enjoy shopping at the shows.
I met up with my daughter Claire and later with her husband Steve and my gorgeous grandaughter Florence. Unfortunately only saw her for about 3/4 of an hour.

I had a bit of a treat as we were driving along the M62 - on the hard shoulder going in the opposite direction were two men walking along - absolutely stark naked!!! My husband said they must have been on a stag do but how embarassing for them - and they must have been frozen.
I am hoping to get to make some cards this coming week although I have about 20 t.shirts to embroider for the rugby club.
best wishes

It is Saturday morning and I am just waiting for my husband to clean his car and then we are going to Meadowhall. I haven't been there for over a year so I am quite looking forward to seeing all the Christmas goodies in the shops.

On Thursday evening I went with my sister Kath to a Stampin Up party which was hosted by Julie Kettlewell. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have bought lots of Stampin Up products but have never been to a party before. Thank you Julie
I have been sorting through some things and found this card - I made one for each of my children last year so that they could cherish the memory of our lovely border collie, Bess, who had to be put to sleep in April 2007 aged nearly 15 years old.

I also made up a verse for her

A few months later I was taken ill and had to have a major operation. My neighbour said that she believes that everything happens for a reason and that if Bess had still been alive I would not have been able to look after her and walk her. My husband had enough to do looking after me and running his business and the house so he wouldn't have had time for her either. Poor Bess.
These last couple of weeks seem to have just passed and I don't feel that I have achieved anything. I have been busy but don't seem to have got anything done.

My sister, Kath, told me she had seen this thing called a ribbon box on the Internet which looked really good. I thought I would have a go at making my own and I was very pleased with the outcome.
I had a see through bag which my son had bought me one Christmas with nail products in, so I made lots of holes in it and then poked the ribbon through, trying my best to keep it in sections of the same colour.

I am really pleased with it, what do you think?
